Wednesday, January 11

Our lesson this morning is about polar bears. What do these items on the mat have in common with polar bears?

  • 1 lb. container of vanilla frosting
  • 1lb. bear shaped container of honey
  • 1lb. container of cornstarch
  • 1 lb. can of re fried beans
  • 1 lb. package of pasta

Some educated responses from the children:

  • "I really like honey."
  • "Polar bears eat meat, this stuff isn't meat, bears do like honey."They can definitely open this and eat it."
  • "I think we should taste the honey to make sure it's okay."
  • "Polar bears are white so they blend in with the snow."
  • "None of these things can grow in the Arctic, it's too cold and too white."

The answer: 1 lb. is the approximate weight of a polar bear baby when it is born.
