Lead Teacher


"Sarahlynn began her Montessori journey at Anchorage Montessori School in Anchorage, Alaska over 15 years ago. After a break to complete her undergraduate degree in psychology, she returned to the school in the mid 2000s, and quickly began to consider formal training. Sarahlynn received the American Montessori Society’s Early Childhood Credential at the New England Montessori Teacher Education Center in 2006. Through the center’s partnership with Lesley University, she also completed a Masters Degree in Education in 2009, with an emphasis on methods of observation and assessment.

Of the Montessori philosophy, Sarahlynn loves most: the compassion and respect for the child and his/her individual needs and instincts, the emphasis on nature, and the emphasis on caring for our fellow humans, including Maria’s Montessori’s peace and cosmic education.

Sarahlynn is also a Licensed Massage Practitioner and Registered Yoga Teacher. When not at work she enjoys reading, cooking, crafting, hiking, cycling, traveling, and spending time in nature.

About Arletta Montessori

 

Arletta Montessori is located at Hales Pass Park, in Gig Harbor, Washington. Nestled among the trees on 4 private acres it is truly a child's paradise. Nature trails and open grass play spaces are outside our back door and will be used as our outdoor classroom. There are numerous plant and animal species for the children to observe, discuss, draw and journal about.  The children will be stewards of the property.

 

We will spend part of every day outside! Rain or shine!


Cheryl LaPlant

Lead teacher, founder and owner


Ms. LaPlant holds current International Montessori Teaching Credentials  for the following aged children: Birth-Toddler, Preschool, Kindergarten, Elementary, and Upper Elementary.She holds a Bachelor of Science, in Education from the University of California Sacramento.

 

Cheryl brings 28 years of teaching experience to Arletta Montessori. She spent 5 years teaching abroad at the largest International Academy in Saudia Arabia, Dhahran International Academy.

 

Cheryl is also certified as a Master Gardener and has been nationally recognized for her environmental programs designed especially for children.When not at school she enjoys reading, gardening, cooking and volunteering for animal rescue agencies in the area.

Employment Opportunities

The Cromwell school district was formed in 1893 for the students in the area, including Arletta. In the spring of 1905 the school district purchased one acre of land for $35.00 to Build the Arletta School.An increase in enrollment along with new building requirements spurred the community to build the Arletta School in 1938.

One teacher taught all the classes from first to eight grade  in this two room schoolhouse at a salary of $45.00 per month.

Today this historic building is home to Arletta Montessori.
